Meet our speakers:

John Strand, Owner at Black Hills Information Security


John is the owner of Black Hills Information Security, a company specializing in penetration testing and security architecture services. He feels strongly that education is how the world of information security will change for the better and spends a considerable amount of time teaching and presenting around the world. He has presented for the FBI, NASA, the NSA, DefCon and is a frequent guest on Enterprise Security Weekly. In his spare time he writes loud rock music and makes various futile attempts at fly-fishing

He is currently also the owner of Antisyphon Security Training, a training firm specialized in affordable world-class security training.

John Strand was a senior instructor with the SANS Institute. He taught SEC504: Hacker Techniques, Exploits, and Incident Handling; SEC560: Network Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking; SEC580: Metasploit Kung Fu for Enterprise Pen Testing; and SEC464: Hacker Detection for System Administrators. John was the course author for SEC464: Hacker Detection for System Administrators and the co-author for SEC580: Metasploit Kung Fu for Enterprise Pen Testing.

Max Pruger, GM Compliance Manager at Kaseya


Max has been a pioneer in the managed services industry since the late 1990s. He currently serves as SVP and GM at Kaseya and oversees go-to-market for Datto Networking, Compliance Manager GRC, VulScan, and MyITProcess. Max’s first stint with Kaseya spanned nearly a decade, before he left to become the Chief Revenue Officer of CloudJumper (acquired by NetApp).  Max began his MSP career at USWeb as a founding member of that company’s managed service division. He has also held the position of Senior Architect at IBM. Max holds a BS in Computer Science from American University and an MBA from the University of Maryland - Robert H. Smith School of Business.
